Durable transaxle layout
The complete transaxle concept combines transmission, differential and rear-drive functions in a practical package for tractor installation.
ZF Agriculture
ZF TERRASHIFT and the T-500 series are complete tractor transaxles designed for dependable power transmission in demanding operating conditions. Their stable inline layout, synchronized gearing and configuration flexibility support practical integration and long-term serviceability across compact and medium tractor concepts.
The family includes synchromesh and powershift variants, with Power Shuttle available on selected configurations. The exact model and transmission equipment must be confirmed before parts, service or repair work is planned.
The product benefits below describe the operating value of the family for agricultural vehicle owners and service specialists.
The complete transaxle concept combines transmission, differential and rear-drive functions in a practical package for tractor installation.
The synchronized main range supports controlled manual shifting and predictable operation in field and transport work.
The family includes different model and equipment variants, allowing the vehicle architecture to define the required operating functions.
The inline design supports a stable driveline layout and practical packaging in the tractor chassis.
Selected T-557 PS configurations provide shuttle functionality for more convenient direction changes.
Clear identification of the exact model helps separate clutch, linkage, synchronization, hydraulic and internal gear-train work.
The functions below show how the product works in the vehicle and which systems must be considered when a symptom appears.
The T-537 and T-557 family variants use synchronized gearing for controlled manual operation.
The T-557 PS variant adds powershift and Power Shuttle functions where specified by the tractor installation.
The detailed T-500 data sheet documents eight synchronized forward gears in the main operating range.
The listed T-500 variants provide four PTO speed options, subject to the exact model and vehicle specification.
The detailed family table documents up to 40 km/h; tires, engine speed and vehicle configuration remain decisive.
Clutch, linkage, PTO and hydraulic behaviour must be assessed together when a symptom is reported.
The ZF T-500 family combines a proven complete transaxle layout with different shifting and shuttle equipment. These configurations should not be treated as one identical transmission for service purposes.
Why this matters: Do not assume that a T-537, T-557, LS or PS unit has the same clutch, shuttle, oil or diagnostic procedure. Confirm the exact type plate and equipment before selecting parts or planning an overhaul.
The table summarizes the verified product designations and application boundaries. Exact compatibility remains dependent on the individual vehicle and unit.
| Application | Designations | Typical range and use |
|---|---|---|
| Agricultural tractors | T-537, T-557, T-537 LS, T-557 LS and T-557 PS | The detailed data sheet covers approximately 60–105 hp; the public family page states a broader 60–185 hp scope that must be confirmed by model. |
| Synchronized tractor platforms | T-537 / T-557 / LS variants | Manual shifting and four PTO speeds support compact and medium tractor applications. |
| Shuttle and powershift platforms | T-557 PS | Power Shuttle and powershift functions are available only where the exact configuration specifies them. |
The table below lists documented OEM and vehicle installations for the ZF agricultural product family. Use it as an identification aid, then confirm the exact unit from the type plate before ordering parts or planning repair work.
| OEM / brand | Vehicle | Vehicle model | ZF label |
|---|---|---|---|
| AGCO | Agricultural Tractors | Series MF 200/400/5000/600 / 2006 | T 3500 Gear Box |
| AGCO | Agricultural Tractors | Series MF 600/ allis / 2006 | T 3500 Gear Box |
| CNH | Agricultural Tractors | M9000 / 2006 to 2014 | T 557 |
| Lindner Traktorenwerk | Agricultural Tractors | Series Geotrac (63,73 Alp.,73,83 Turb., 93,103) / 2006 to today | T 500 |
This identification reference groups the documented Agriculture OEM associations by ZF designation. Use it to narrow the search, then confirm the exact unit from the vehicle and type plate before selecting parts or planning service work.
| OEM / manufacturer | ZF TERRASHIFT / T-500 variants |
|---|---|
| BASAK | T 557 |
| Case | T 537, T 557 |
| Deutz-Fahr | T 557 |
| ERKUNT | T 537, T 557 |
| Hürrlimann | T 557 |
| John Deere | T 557 |
A listed association is an identification lead, not permission to assume interchangeability. Confirm the exact type plate and vehicle installation before parts or service decisions.
TERRASHIFT and T-500 units must be serviced by exact model and equipment. The current TE-ML 06 entry, the presence of front-wheel drive or wet brakes and the tractor manufacturer determine the correct service route.
| Product group | Application | Class / boundary | Service guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-537 / T-557 family | T500 series tractor transaxles | TE-ML 06B / 06K where applicable | Do not assume the same service provision for every T-500 configuration. |
| T-557 LS / T-5180 LS | LS configurations | TE-ML 06B / 06K | Confirm the exact unit and current ZF service list before filling. |
| T-557 PS | Powershift configuration | TE-ML 06B | The powershift equipment and vehicle instruction must be checked together. |
The exact unit, vehicle configuration and operating conditions must be confirmed from the type plate and service information before parts, oil or repair work is planned.
Technical answers for tractor owners, agricultural workshops and manufacturers.
First establish whether the symptom affects one gear, one range, PTO operation, shuttle direction or the complete transmission. Check linkage adjustment, clutch release, oil and filter history, temperature, noise, engagement behaviour and any hydraulic assistance before dismantling. The exact T-500 designation determines the diagnostic path; ATS can assess the evidence before an overhaul is planned.
A harsh shuttle may involve clutch pressure, Power Shuttle control, calibration, oil condition, valve behaviour or clutch wear, while the synchronized gear train may still operate normally. Record the direction, temperature, load and engagement conditions, then use the exact identification and diagnostic data to separate control from internal damage. Contact ATS for the next test.
The exact model, equipment variant, tractor manufacturer, front-wheel-drive arrangement, brake type and current TE-ML 06 entry are required. A general tractor-oil description is not sufficient, and service information must not be transferred from a similar T-500 model. ATS can verify the service provision before the oil change begins.
Removal is justified when structured checks indicate internal gear, bearing, clutch or housing damage, persistent loss of drive, abnormal contamination or a fault that cannot be resolved through external adjustment and control checks. A single difficult shift is not enough evidence by itself. ATS can define whether the correct solution is adjustment, component repair or complete remanufacturing.
Send ATS the data from the transmission identification table, including the Part List Number and Serial Number, together with the tractor manufacturer and model, machine serial number, operating hours, fault codes, symptoms, operating temperature, oil and filter history and any available diagnostic information. We will help define the appropriate next step for parts, diagnosis, repair or remanufacturing.
